The bathing bulletin for Alagoas beaches, released this Friday, 3rd, by the Environmental Institute (IMA) reveals that 17 stretches are unsuitable for swimming this weekend.

Between April 30th and May 1st, 66 samples were collected and classified at points distributed from Pontal do Peba beach to Maragogi. At the time, rainfall was recorded only on the south coast.

In Maceió, 10 areas identified as unsuitable for swimming include stretches of the beaches of Jatiúca, Avenida, Pajuçara, Ponta Verde, Cruz das Almas, Jacarecica and Riacho Doce.

Bathers should also avoid three points on the south coast. They are: Praia de Duas Barras, about 200m south of the mouth of the Jequiá River, and Jequiá da Praia; Niquim River, approximately 300 meters from Foz, in Barra de São Miguel and Praia do Saco, in Marechal Deodoro, in front of Rua Principal. On the north coast, four areas have compromised water quality. Three points are in Maragogi and one in Barra de Camaragibe.

The bathing bulletin analyzes the amount of thermotolerant coliforms found in the waters of rivers and seas. The classification is based on standards established by the National Environmental Council (Conama). The result is valid for one week.

The IMA recommends that bathers should avoid using areas that are directly under the influence of algal blooms, especially in the stretches between Avenida and Sobral beaches.
