Video shows attacks on dead patient in rehabilitation clinic

A closed circuit video, released this Friday (3) by TV Gazeta, shows a fight between patients at a rehabilitation clinic, which resulted in the death of Cledson Ney da Conceição Lima, aged 21.

In the video, Cledson appears shirtless, grabbing another inmate in a red shirt by the neck. Afterwards, another inmate, wearing a pink shirt, tries to do the same to Clédson, who then falls to the floor and is attended to by a man in white clothes, a possible employee of the rehabilitation clinic.

In another video, Cledson appears leaving the infirmary, where he would have been under observation for two hours, according to his family’s lawyer.

According to Clédson’s family, this was the second time he was admitted to the clinic.

Cledison was taken to the State General Hospital (HGE) and the health unit confirmed his death. In the report, the hospital concluded that death was caused by damage to brain tissue, head trauma and action by a blunt instrument. The document confirms that there was a homicide by beating.

The Civil Police opened an investigation to investigate and the main line is intentional homicide by the inmates involved. The police are also investigating whether there was a failure to provide assistance by the clinic’s employees.

The clinic’s defense said that employees separated Cledison from other patients who shared the room with him for safety reasons and that he received care from a nurse at the clinic. Regarding the victim’s delay in receiving care, the lawyer also said that the young man showed no signs that he could have complications.

“When the incident occurred, the victim went to the infirmary, spent hours under observation and, after leaving, he spoke to the monitors and was healthy and, apparently, conscious. Nothing that was identified there at that time could lead to a conclusion like the one that happened”, says lawyer Victor Cavalcante.

According to information released by TV Gazeta, two people were arrested and two others are at large.
