One of the main names in Globo journalism today, Tiago Scheuer took to Instagram to vent about a serious health problem he faced during the month of March. The reporter, who is 40 years old, revealed that he was diagnosed with shingles.

“Have you ever had shingles or do you know someone who has had this disease? Because I had it last March and I confess to you that I felt a lot of pain. Today the newspaper O Globo, in fact, published a study, carried out in Brazil, saying that it had a 31% increase in the number of hospitalizations due to this disease comparing 2021 with 2023. So it’s no joke”, commented Tiago Scheuer.

“In my case, I didn’t need to be hospitalized, which was fine. But the pain was intense, ranging from a sensation of shock, needles, burning, burning, punching…”, said the journalist, who explained how he discovered he had the disease.

“How did I find out? It started with a little red spot on my stomach and that little spot grew day after day. Then it occupied part of my side and back. Not understanding anything, three days later, I went to a dermatologist. She told me He diagnosed me with shingles and gave me antiviral medication. It was only three weeks later that the pain stopped completely,” said Scheuer.

Tiago Scheuer took the opportunity to explain what causes the disease. “Herpes zoster is caused by the same virus as chickenpox. If you had chickenpox in childhood, the virus doesn’t go away, it stays dormant in our body and can return in adulthood taking advantage of an episode of low immunity, which was the in my case, or stress or even depression. Normally, this disease affects people over fifty. I’m 40 and there are people younger than me who also suffer from it”, he declared.
