Operation against drug trafficking arrests suspects

Three people were arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking this Friday (26), in Palmas. According to preliminary information, five search and seizure warrants are being carried out by the Civil Police (PC) in the southern region of the capital.

Operation Retomada investigates suspects involved in drug trafficking and criminal factions. The investigation seeks to dismantle a criminal organization responsible for drug trafficking in the peripheral regions of Palmas. The names of those arrested were not released.

According to the Civil Police, in addition to the three suspects, aged 26, 29 and 25, a fourth suspect, a member of the same criminal group, was arrested during the week.

The warrants were served in houses in Jardim Taquari, a neighborhood that would be the target of a territorial dispute between factions. According to the PC, in recent months the region has come to suffer from the strong influence of a criminal faction originating from São Paulo.

Portions of cocaine and marijuana were seized. According to delegate Alexander Pereira da Costa, investigations began in November 2023, after the arrest in the act of one of those involved where a large quantity of drugs was seized.

“From then on, we began investigative work to investigate the criminal activity of drug trafficking, which was confirmed throughout the investigation, and specifically today, the objective was to capture the criminals responsible for drug trafficking in the region. This objective was duly fulfilled”, concludes the delegate.

The police investigation is part of the actions of Operation Narc, coordinated by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, across the country, with a focus on combating drug trafficking.

The suspects were taken to the headquarters of the 1st Denarc for the appropriate legal measures. They will be sent to the Palmas Penal Unit.
