Doctor is released after being kidnapped in Salvador
Four men suspected of involvement in the kidnapping of a doctor, on Wednesday night (24), in the Pituba neighborhood, in Salvador, were arrested red-handed this Friday (26).
The doctor, identified as Gilson Meirelles Campos Junior, was released this Friday morning, in the municipality of Castro Alves, in the Bahian region. The distance between the place where the victim was kidnapped and where he was located is approximately 200 km. He had to be taken to a city hospital, but was released. There are no details about his health status.
A statement was published on Gilson’s social media, which stated that he was safe and thanked him for his support and concern during the period of the kidnapping. He also said that he is receiving the necessary care, and that as soon as possible, he will record a video with updates on his health and return.
Four suspects involved in the kidnapping of a doctor in Salvador are arrested
According to information on the Federal Council of Medicine (CFM) website, Gilson Meirelles specializes in otorhinolaryngology. On social media, he identifies himself as a preceptor for an otorhinolaryngology residency at Hospital Santo Antônio and a professor at Universidade Salvador.
He has 19 thousand followers and often publishes videos and cards with content about his specialty, routine care, as well as tips on the topic.
According to information from the Civil Police, three kidnapping suspects were found in a car, near the Sussuarana neighborhood, on Avenida Paralela. The victim’s cell phone was found with them.
A fourth person, who would receive the kidnapping amounts, was arrested by Santa Catarina police officers, at the door of a bank branch, in the municipality of Joinville. According to the Civil Police, the amount was blocked and the men were unable to withdraw the amount.
The actions had the support of the 4th Regional Police Coordination of the Interior (Coorpin/Santo Antônio de Jesus) and the Castro Alves Territorial Police Station.
