The sands of Copacabana, in Rio de Janeiro, welcomed at least 1.6 million people for Madonna’s show. The number was released by Riotur, a tourism company linked to the city hall, and exceeded the initial expectation by 100 thousand. The audience could be considered the largest in the singer’s entire career, as she performed in the country for the fourth time. The last one was 12 years ago.
The show, which ended the world tour The Celebration Tourstarted shortly after 10:30 pm last Saturday (4) and lasted approximately two hours.
Two Brazilian artists – Anitta and Pabllo Vittar – performed alongside the North American. There were also tributes to Renato Russo, Cazuza, Abdias do Nascimento, Paulo Freire, Pelé, Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Marielle Franco, Zumbi dos Palmares, Mano Brown, Erika Hilton, Marta, Cacique Raoni, Maria Bethânia, Daniela Mercury, among others .
Police balance
The Military Police (PM) reported that they seized another 160 sharp objects at various blocking and search points in Copacabana. In an image released by the corporation, it is possible to see items such as scissors, box cutters and knives. 33 people were also taken to the neighborhood police stations on suspicion of criminal offenses.
The PM’s security scheme involved 3,200 officers on the streets, with the assistance of video surveillance cameras and facial recognition.
The Municipal Urban Cleaning Company (Comlurb) reported that it had set up a special operation for the show in Copacabana. Days before, on Friday (3), the sands were cleaned. During the singer’s performance, maintenance was carried out and, in the early hours of Sunday, the beach was cleaned again.
Cleaning
“1,518 street cleaners, 65 vehicles, 38 equipment, 1,500 containers, 15 selective collection points and 48 agents from the Zero Waste program were mobilized, in addition to cleaning at three health centers in the region. Comlurb removed 287 tons of waste from the beach and the Zero Waste inspector teams applied 27 fines for irregular disposal of small waste and irregular advertising”, reported Comlurb.
