Video: dragnet scares drivers on Avenida Brasil, in Guadalupe | Rio de Janeiro

Rio – Armed bandits raided Avenida Brasil, between Guadalupe and Coelho Neto, in the North Zone of Rio, at around 2pm this Tuesday (23). Witnesses claim that some drivers, frightened by the situation, went the wrong way to escape the criminals. In videos circulating on social media, it is possible to hear the sound of gunshots in the background.

In a statement, the Military Police reported that agents from the Police Battalion in Vias Expressas (BPVE) were called to an incident of vehicle theft.

According to the unit command, police officers located a victim who had his cell phone stolen by armed men. No one was arrested. Still in a statement, the PM reinforced that policing was intensified on the road.

Avenida Brasil is a frequent scene of crime in Rio de Janeiro. On February 5, three people were robbed near Guadalupe, less than five kilometers from Coelho Neto, and one of them had their car taken by the criminals. Two weeks earlier, two more victims had vehicles stolen in Deodoro, in the West Zone.
