Sergio Perez revealed that he made a serious mistake at the start of the Formula 1 Miami GP, almost taking his teammate, Max Verstappen, off the track. The Mexican driver gave an interview to Viaplay after the race and spoke about the incident.

“It was very close at the beginning, especially because I started outside the ideal line,” said Perez. “I tried on the inside, but there was no grip at all. I ended up losing a position to (Oscar) Piastri and damaged my tires a little. Later, in the stint with the medium tires, I struggled to keep up with the others. The tires were getting too hot, which basically prevented me from overtaking the drivers in front.”

The near accident with Verstappen happened in turn 1 and Perez reported the incident: “It was very close. Fortunately, I managed to ease the brake in time to avoid hitting Max. It got pretty critical,” said the Mexican.

This error at the start contributed to Perez’s final result, who finished the race in fifth place, behind Lando Norris, Verstappen, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, however, with the penalty received by Sainz, Perez moved up to P4.
