The CBF released the images and audio from the VAR booth in the Botafogo 1 x 2 Bahia match, played this Sunday night at the Nilton Santos Stadium, in the 5th round of the Brasileirão. One of the controversial moves – and even the subject of complaints from coach Artur Jorge – was the offside of Damián Suárez on a goal by Júnior Santos. See the video below.

At the beginning of the second half, Marlon Freitas launched the Uruguayan deep. The defender invaded the area and crossed for Júnior Santos to complete the ball into the back of the net. After just over two minutes of review by the VAR, referee Rafael Rodrigo Klein canceled the move due to the Uruguayan being offside at the beginning of the play.
The video referee in the duel was Igor Junio Benevenuto.
– Field marked offside, okay? Wait, okay? Let’s draw the lines. First defender, it’s this one or the one below. Mark him, on top of the trunk. Now let’s mark the other player, go to the left… It will be 13 (Arias). The defender is 13 (Arias). Now put it on the striker (Damián Suárez). It can go up (the line), up to his arm… That’s the angle. To the left, to the right… That’s it. It’s his arm. Ok. You can confirm. Off-side. No penalty, clean shot – said Igor Junio.
Artur Jorge, Botafogo coach, did not agree with the offside call and protested at a press conference after the match.
– We scored a goal a minute and a half into the second half which, for me, is a clear goal. For me it’s a goal and there is no impediment that justifies invalidation – he said.
PC Oliveira agrees with the appointment
Participating in Troca de Passes, PC Oliveira, refereeing commentator for Globo channels, agreed with the offside call.
