“Today [a Rússia] has resolutely decided to become a destabilizing power that does not impose strategic limits on its actions”, defended Emmanuel Macron in an interview with La Tribune Dimanche, as reported on Saturday by the newspaper Le Figaro.

Russia no longer has “a declared strategic objective” in Ukraine, as it did in the beginning, that of “saving the Ukrainian provinces that had declared autonomy”, denounced Macron.

“It is necessary to remove all visibility, because that is what creates the deterrent capacity”, he defended.

“Russian enthusiasm demonstrates that we are right not to close any doors. Otherwise, it means that we accept renouncing an international order based on law and, therefore, on peace and security,” added the French President.

Macron also highlighted the importance of maintaining dialogue with Moscow, arguing that “it is right to leave the door open to negotiations” with the country.

Otherwise, he added, it would mean “abandoning international order, peace and security.”
