The work of the Alagoas Finance Department (Sefaz-AL) team at the state’s tax posts is essential for controlling the entry of goods across its borders. In 2023, there were 22,455,599 invoices registered in total, representing a large volume with an increasing trend for the current year.

With a monthly average of 1,871,300 invoices, approximately 66,000 vehicles (including land and air transport) were subjected to documentary verification monthly. According to the special secretary of the State Revenue, Francisco Suruagy, Alagoas is a predominantly importing state and needs to have strong control over the entry of goods into its borders. He also comments on the other functions of the posts:

“The tax posts also have the function of economic protection for traders in Alagoas, as well as guaranteeing the suitability and quality of products entering the state. This is very important, both for local commerce and for the quality of the products that people from Alagoas are consuming,” he said.

The special superintendent of the State Revenue, Alexandra Vieira, emphasizes the relevance of this flow for the local economy, as this action helps to regulate a fairer market, in which everyone fulfills their tax obligations. This reduces tax evasion and helps the state of Alagoas’ revenue performance, thus enabling it to better fulfill its social function, improving the quality of life of its population.

According to the inspection superintendent of Sefaz-AL, Luiz Augusto, the existence of the stations represents Fazenda de Alagoas in the entry and exit of goods from the state through different means of transport. “Tax posts are essential for inspection, control, barriers, registration of tax documents, collection of debts and show the presence of the Treasury Department at the entry and exit of goods from the state through different means of transport.”

Keylle Lima, the technical director of Sebrae Alagoas, highlights the importance of the posts in defense of the local economy: “Border inspection plays a crucial role in protecting the local market and preventing the entry of goods without an invoice, thus ensuring the economic integrity of entrepreneurs and the state. By investing in these areas, especially when added to data intelligence to combat unfair competition, we can better protect our local market, ensure consumer safety and promote a fair and competitive business environment.”
