The soldier Danilo Martins Pereira, 34 years old, who claims to have been a victim of torture during training at the Military Police of the Federal District (PMDF), and does not intend to return to the corporation. Stationed at the Riacho Fundo Battalion, Danilo was hospitalized for six days in the ICU after the first day of the 16th Shock Battalion Mobile Tactical Patrol Training Course (BPChoque).

“I’m not going back to the PM anymore,” he told the newspaper Correio Braziliense. “It was a dream that turned into a nightmare. I absolutely don’t want to continue. I am physically and mentally weakened. My parents, who are elderly, are in compromised health,” he added.

The training took place on April 21st. Danilo said he arrived at the battalion at 8am and returned home around 4:30pm. According to the court decision, to which the newspaper had access, the soldier reported having “visible signs of physical stress, such as redness on his arms and face, typical of severe heatstroke.” At home, his sister noticed his injuries and took him to the hospital.

To his sister, Danilo said he had been beaten with pieces of wood on his legs, buttocks and torso, with kicks and punches to the face, in addition to having suffered blows with a helmet, which had broken on impact. The soldier also said he was hit with chemical foam in the face and body at a short distance.

“Right at the beginning, the coordinator put me in front of the class and said: ‘Look at this worm here. It will be shut down and whoever helps will be shut down automatically'”, he detailed.

Danilo says he believes that the reason for so much aggressiveness is related to his trajectory within the PM. “Because of the life I have on social media, because of the book I released, because I’m a writer. Last month, for example, I won an honorable motion in the Legislative Chamber for participating in a hostage operation,” he said.

The soldier was interviewed at Hospital Brasília by a member of the Public Ministry of the Federal District and Territories (MPDFT). On Monday, the 29th, 14 military police officers were temporarily arrested, and 15 search and seizure warrants were executed.

The course was also suspended until the investigations were completed. “According to the victim, she was forced to give up the training course. When she refused to give up, she was attacked, humiliated and tortured for eight hours”, summarizes the MPDFT, in a note.

The commander of BPChoque, Lieutenant Colonel Cabele Teixeira das Neves, was removed. According to the Correio Braziliense, the following were arrested: the course coordinator, second lieutenant Marco Aurélio Teixeira; Gabriel Saraiva dos Santos, Daniel Barboza Sinesio, Wagner Santos Silvares, Fábio de Oliveira Flor, Elder de Oliveira Arruda, Eduardo Luiz Ribeiro da Silva, Rafael Pereira Miranda, Bruno Almeida da Silva, Danilo Ferreira Lopes, Rodrigo Assunção Dias, Matheus Barros dos Santos Souza, Diekson Coelho Peres and Reniery Santa Rosa.

The DF Military Police says that it does not admit misconduct and investigates the facts in a “judicious and impartial manner, observing all legal procedures, allowing the full defense of those involved.” The corporation said it had opened a military police investigation and does not comment on judicial decisions.
