From April 15th to 19th, several activities will mark Children’s Book Week 2024 at the Santa Catarina Public Library (BPSC), a space managed by the Fundação Catarinense de Cultura (FCC) in the center of Florianópolis. There will be exhibitions, book exchanges, guided tours, storytelling, workshops, book launches and lectures, all with free entry to the Library, which this year celebrates 170 years of creation.

The activities at the Public Library of Santa Catarina are also part of the program of the 15th Municipal Children’s Book Week, and are supported by the Division of School and Community Libraries and the Department of Education of Florianópolis.

From 15 to 19/04:

From 8am to 7pm: Exhibition “Between Thoughts, Words and Works: legacy of Henrique da Silva Fontes”
Location: BPSC entrance hall

About: The exhibition aims to show the profile of a public man who held various roles and positions, whose image remained for posterity is that of an educator. From his intellectual legacy, we see a collector or keeper of the past, with documents of intimacy and public life, which allows readers of the present to glimpse his presence in the intellectual history of Santa Catarina.

About the storyteller: Eva Lenita Trierveiler is a pedagogue graduated from the University of the West of Santa Catarina (UNOESC) and a specialist in Early Childhood Education and Early Years from the Regional Community University of Chapecó (UNOCHAPECÓ). He works professionally in storytelling with a varied repertoire, which includes stories from the past and stories from now on, universal classic tales, popular tales from Brazil and the world, interspersed with songs, poetry and literary games with their own setting and use of elements, a varied collection of stories, and scenic elements. Its purpose is to bring, through stories, poems and songs, the enchantment and magic that literature provides to the listening public, seeking to awaken a taste for reading and the formation of new readers.

April 16th (Tuesday):

9:30 am: Children’s literary workshop with storytelling from the book “A Fantástica Amiga Kika”, by Grasiela Estanislaua Konescki Führ

About: The workshop will include painting illustrative drawings, as well as storytelling about the book “A Fantástica Amiga Kika”, by Grasiela Estanislaua Konescki Führ, with the participation of the author. The objective is to stimulate the development of cognitive and social skills, communication and creativity.
About the book: “A Fantástica Amiga Kika” knows the value of cultivating good friendships, and thus has many friends, in an exciting, harmonious and lively coexistence. Kika learned together with attentive Laura about the importance of maintaining healthy habits. Laura is a very affable girl and sets good examples of dedication and care for environmental preservation.
About the author: Grasiela Estanislaua Konescki Führ is a writer, poet and psychologist. Born in Florianópolis (SC), she is a member of the Independent Academy of Letters, the Senior Intercontinental Academy of Literature and Art and the International Academy of Literature and Arts Poetas Além do Tempo. She won the Grand Prix Femme Littéraire 2021 Editions Cultive & Institut Cultive Suisse Brésil, poetry category, with her book “A Poetisa: Mistérios de viver e de amar”, from Editora Trevo. She was Literary Highlight 2021, by Editora Mágico de Oz.

About the accountant: Marina Hadlich Uliano de Souza was born in Blumenau (SC), but currently lives in Florianópolis, where she continues reading and writing by the sea. She can be found out there telling stories to children, doing theater or writing in a cafe. Marina loves spreading literature in community libraries and campaigns to collect books for institutions. She is the author of the book of short stories “100 Mulheres”, the children’s book “The boy who hid” and has participated in several anthologies. He recently released the book “Women moldy in their bowels and memories”.

April 17th (Wednesday):

9:30 am: “Counting with Rag Doll” workshop, with Maria Ana Raimundo (Regininha) and Claudete da Mata

Maria Ana Raimundo (Regininha) is a 76-year-old woman from Josefa who deftly cuts small pieces of fabric and uses scissors to create clothes for dolls.

2pm and 6pm: Launch of the book “Fritz Müller – Love for Nature in Poetry”

About the book: A new book published in Santa Catarina invites parents and teachers to share with children the poetic and playful side of one of the most famous people from Santa Catarina of all time. Poems that naturalist Fritz Müller wrote for his daughters in the 19th century appear in a renewed edition in the work “Fritz Müller: Love for Nature in Poetry”, which combines literature, science and environmental education.
Fritz provided his daughters with an education along the same lines that awakened in him and his brothers an interest in research and sensitivity towards nature — analyzes historian Ana Maria Ludwig Moraes, organizer of the work. The 12 poems were translated and adapted into Portuguese by Flávia Pacheco Alves de Souza, Stefano Hagen and Luiz Roberto Fontes, with original illustrations by Christiane Mundim Lindner. There will be free distribution of books.

April 19th (Friday):

About the stories: “The Three Little Pigs” – In this retelling, parents and children are invited to reflect on the concept that we are 100% responsible for all our choices and their consequences. “Ayam and Intuition” – It is a story created from the concepts of Natural Laws or Quantum Physics.
“Little Red Riding Hood and the Search for True Security” – Little Riding Hood follows a path of self-development, based on valuable lessons for any child, such as the importance of intuition in decision-making.
About the author: Sônia Wilke was born in Minas Gerais and graduated in psychology from UFMG. With her children still young, she moved to Florianópolis, the city where she established herself as a family and couples psychotherapist for over 30 years. Sonia published the books “Ayam and intuition” and “The three little pigs and responsibility”, both based on the concepts of Natural Laws.

From 2pm to 4pm: Workshop “Concertina Book for Children”, with Márcia Cattoi Schmidt.

About the workshop: The aim of the activity is to introduce children to some types of toy books,
pointing out moving parts, types of closure, colors and designs, themes that favor linearity. It is also intended to tell a story as inspiration for the concertina book; create a concertina toy book based on the story told – each child makes their own; and provide an experience with graphic materials, such as paper (white cardboard), scissors and glue for each, and paints or colored markers/pencils. These materials will be provided by the Library.
About the workshop: Márcia Cattoi Schmidt is an artist and designer, with a degree in Arts (bachelor’s degree and
degree) and Graphic Design; and a PhD in Design from UDESC.
