XIX Bahia Economy Meeting addresses economic growth strategies

Researchers, students and managers from public and private initiatives are invited to debate the topic of economic growth strategies with reduced inequalities, at the XIX Bahia Economy Meeting (EEB). The event will be held by the Superintendence of Economic and Social Studies of Bahia (SEI) in partnership with the Postgraduate Program in Economics (PPGE) of the Faculty of Economics of the Federal University of Bahia (FE/UFBA), on the 24th and 25th April, in the FE/UFBA auditorium (Praça da Piedade, n. 6, Salvador). Registration is free and is open on the website eeb.sei.ba.gov.br.

The meeting will address the challenges and possibilities for achieving economic growth while reducing poverty and inequalities, in Bahia and Brazil, and will bring together economists specialized in the areas of taxation, fiscal, industry, public investments and social policies, among others.

Among the contents, the recent tax reform and its repercussions on long-term development in Brazil and the states will be addressed. The debaters will be Marcelo Lettiere, tax auditor at the Federal Revenue, PhD in Economics from the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE) and collaborating professor at the Federal University of Ceará, with experience in the area of ​​Public Sector Economics, among others; and Reinaldo Sampaio, economist specializing in Mineral Economics, member of the Bahia Regional Economic Council (Corecon-BA).

The resumption of social policies, mainly Bolsa Família, as a way of minimizing poverty and inequalities will be another aspect. The subject will be addressed by professors from the UFBA Faculty of Economics Stélio Lombardi Filho, PhD in Economics from the Center for Development and Regional Planning (Cedeplar/UFMG), and Julyan Gleyvison Lins, PhD in Economics from the Federal University of Pernambuco.

Furthermore, the event will address the dilemma of zero fiscal deficit, autonomy of the Central Bank and the public investment strategy, with UFBA professors Fabrício Pitombo Leite, PhD from the State University of Campinas (Unicamp), and Nuno Jorge Sampaio, graduate from the Higher Institute of Economics and Management of the University of Lisbon, a master’s degree in Economie Internationale et Regulation from Université Paris 13 (Paris-Nord) and a PhD in Economics from the University of London.

Finally, there will be a debate on the development vectors of the Bahian economy, mainly with regard to industry, with the participation of UFBA professor Leonardo Bispo, doctor from Unicamp, and Carlos Danilo Almeida, economist from the Federation of Industries of the State of Bahia (FIEB).
