On the coast of Santa Catarina, the arrival of the artisanal mullet fishing season is a cause for great celebration. On the morning of this Wednesday, May 1st, the event was held at Praia do Campeche, in Florianópolis, which marks the beginning of the artisanal capture of the species. There was a great mobilization of the population and authorities linked to fishing in Rancho do Getúlio.

Artisanal fishing represents a tradition rooted in local culture. Fishermen, with their colorful boats and ancestral skills, go out to sea with the hope of an abundant catch this season. It is a spectacle of determination and connection with the sea, where wisdom passed down from generation to generation comes together with the unpredictable nature of the ocean.

As the first schools of mullet return to coastal waters, the community joins in festivities to celebrate this special occasion. Food festivals highlight traditional mullet dishes, while folk dances and live music fill the air with joy.

In addition to the festivities, the mullet fishing season is also a time to reflect on the importance of marine conservation. Sustainable practices are promoted, aiming to protect not only mullet populations, but also the delicate marine ecosystem in which they thrive.

So, as the boats return with their catches and the fishermen share stories of their journeys, the celebration of the beginning of the artisanal mullet fishing season in Santa Catarina is more than a simple party; It is a tribute to the rich cultural heritage and harmony between man and the sea.

The Secretary of State for Aquaculture and Fisheries, Tiago Bolan Frigo, was at the event in Praia do Campeche and highlighted the importance of mullet fishing for Santa Catarina.

“The expectation is that the mullets will come in large volumes and be able to provide our fishermen with this fish that is so important not only economically, but culturally and socially. Our governor Jorginho Mello created a Secretariat to deal with issues involving fishing and we are working on developing public policies for the sector, in addition to supporting fishermen across the Santa Catarina coast”, reinforced secretary Tiago Frigo.
