Sources close to the allies indicate that the president of the Chamber, deputy Arthur Lira (PP-AL), is facing a dilemma regarding his succession.
There is a consensus within Centrão that Lira needs, more than ever, to influence the choice of the next president of the House, in order to avoid situations similar to those experienced by his predecessor, Rodrigo Maia, who left weakened when he left command of the Legislature.

The main obstacle is that the name closest to Lira, deputy Elmar Nascimento (BA), leader of União Brasil, faces resistance from various sectors of the Chamber. If Lira insists on Elmar’s candidacy, his allies warn that he runs the real risk of being defeated.
This possibility arises due to the potential formation of an alliance between other members of Centrão, who could join forces around a candidacy to compete with the Elmar-Lira ticket. In this scenario, pre-candidates Marcos Pereira (SP), president of the Republicans, Antonio Brito (BA), leader of the PSD, and Isnaldo Bulhões (AL), leader of the MDB, could come together.

Furthermore, the right-wing Bolsonarist wing is already considering the possibility of launching its own candidacy, which would take the dispute to a second round.
Given these circumstances, Lira’s allies are openly discussing the idea of finding a “tertius”, that is, a third name that can resolve the impasse. The leader of the Republicans, deputy Hugo Motta (PB), has been mentioned for this role, although there is a risk of a veto by the president of the party, Marcos Pereira.

Alternatively, a solution is being considered within the PP itself: the leader of the party, deputy Doutor Luizinho (RJ).
An interlocutor close to the president of the Chamber highlighted: “Lira’s biggest fear is becoming an irrelevant figure, as happened with Rodrigo Maia. Therefore, he understands the importance of influencing the choice of his successor.”
