World Health Day is celebrated on April 7th, a date that leads to reflection on the importance of caring for physical and mental well-being. One of the simplest, most effective and accessible ways to promote health is regular physical activity.

Director-president of Funed (Fundação Esporte e Lazer), Luís Arthur Spinola, highlights that physical activity plays a vital role in promoting health, strengthening the body, improving blood circulation, increasing resistance, reducing stress, improving quality sleep and is essential in preventing a series of chronic diseases, such as diabetes, heart disease and obesity.

“An active lifestyle is essential for quality of life, prevention and treatment of different types of diseases, especially chronic degenerative diseases. According to the World Health Organization, each person should accumulate 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical exercise every week, so a simple 30-minute walk five times a week is enough”, he explains.

Practicing physical activity does not require expensive equipment, there are several simple and free practices that can be incorporated into the daily routine to improve health, such as walking, dancing, stretching and body exercises, such as push-ups, sit-ups and squats.

“These exercises can be easily incorporated into your daily routine, whether at home, in the park or even at the workplace. Dourados has several Parks, Cepers and spaces suitable for these practices. The City Hall has carried out the revitalization and maintenance of these locations, to further facilitate access for the population”, adds Luís Arthur.

In Dourados, the City Hall develops, through Funed, the Sports and Leisure Program for All, with free physical activities and professional guidance at the Complexo Poliesportivo Jorge Antônio Salomão ‘Jorjão’, Parque Antenor Martins, Parque Alvorada, Ceper I, II, III and IV Plano, Parque Rego D’Água, Douradão, Parque das Nações and Estação Cidadania.
