The State Department of Education (Seduc) announced this Tuesday (30) the extension of registrations for the 2024 edition of the Alagoas History Olympiad (OLHAL).

The procedure must be completed by May 11th using the form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdBn5Ej5xDUKy9pDoxf8VOmcTNOXAwErDQN3D39liU3RpwoCQ/viewform). The competition notice is available on the Seduc website (www.educacao.al.gov.br) in the Notices section.

OLHAL aims to encourage the study of Afro-indigenous history in Alagoas and prepare students for external assessments.

How to participate

To participate, schools need to assemble teams of three students enrolled in the 8th and 9th year of elementary school and 1st to 3rd year of high school and their respective equivalents in Youth and Adult Education (EJA) in the state education network. A single teacher can guide up to three teams, but the student can only join one team.

After filling out the registration form and the requested data, the supervising teacher must also provide an exclusive email for the team, which needs to be created using the model [email protected]. This email address is mandatory and will serve as a login for the first phase of the Olympics.

The 2024 proposal is to encourage research and implementation of projects with the theme “School community and territory: participation, interaction and social commitment to equity”.

What’s new this year is that the team that achieves first place in the competition will be awarded a one-year junior scientific initiation scholarship offered by CNPq worth R$300 per month.

The competition

OLHAL has three phases. The first, which takes place on June 4th, is an online test with 20 objective questions that have different weights. The second phase, scheduled for the period from the 1st to the 5th of July, consists of the delivery of the pre-research project in accordance with the format indicated in the notice and framed within the theme of the 2024 academic year, also having a relationship with the following subtopics guiding principles: “Alagoas, its History and its People”; “Alagoas, Space of Resistance” and “Women in the History of Alagoas”.

The third and final stage is the defense of the pre-project in person at the Student Meeting, which will take place in August. Each team will have a maximum of 12 minutes to present themselves and the committee will evaluate according to the criteria required in the notice.

For Ricardo Santos, special manager of Pedagogical Practices at Seduc, the Olympics contributes to expanding the feeling of belonging and respect for Afro-indigenous diversity in Alagoas. “The Olympics allows students from the state network to learn even more about the history of their people, delving into our Afro-indigenous roots. Furthermore, it contributes to respecting diversity”, explains the manager.
