Eloy Casagrande? Fans speculate that Slipknot’s new drummer is Brazilian | Culture

After a few months without performing, Slipknot performed again this Thursday (25th) in a small bar in the United States celebrating the 25th anniversary of their first album. But the big news wasn’t that, but rather the speculation about who the metal group’s new drummer would be. And, despite not having official confirmation, fans believe that he is Brazilian Eloy Casagrande. The topic was even top in Google searches and among the most talked about on X this Friday (26th).

The doubt is not new. It all started at the beginning of 2024, when the drummer, still in Sepultura, was a name floated to take on the role. At a press conference announcing the band’s closing tour, he even denied this. Even so, shortly before the first performance, in March, he left citing personal and professional issues. As a result, speculation increased.

In recent days, the situation seemed even clearer, when a video on Slipknot’s official website showed tags of the members’ names, one of which was “eloy”.

CBN contacted the musician to confirm the information. But his response was that he had “nothing to add.”

This Thursday, fans speculated similarities between the new drummer and Eloy Casagrande. From his hair, his way of playing to some tattoos:

To complement the theories in fans’ minds, two metal names spoke about the subject, mentioning the names of Eloy and Slipknot. One of them was Fear Factory guitarist Dino Cazares, who wrote on social media: “Now that Eloy Casagrande is playing drums in Slipknot, I want to go see the band.”

Furthermore, Mi Vieira, lead singer of Gloria, the drummer’s former band, posted a photo of them with Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor at Rock in Rio 2011, congratulating him:

It is difficult to know whether there will be any official confirmation from Slipknot, who often play with the identities of their members. Furthermore, the masks used in all presentations also leave even more doubts.

However, for fans it is very clear that the new drummer of one of the most influential American metal bands today is indeed Brazilian.

Slipknot will perform in Brazil later this year at Knotfest, a festival organized by the group. They will be the main attraction of the two-day event, on October 19th and 20th, at Allianz Parque.

Who is Eloy Casagrande?

Eloy Casagrande began to stand out early in his career, participating in several drum competitions in the United States. After that, he participated in smaller bands, such as AcllA, Iahweh, 2ois, until, in the late 2000s, he joined the support band of former Angra singer, André Matos.

Soon after, he joined Gloria and participated in the group’s landmark moments, such as the performance at Rock in Rio in 2011. At the end of that same year, he was called to join Sepultura, which remained until 2024. In the meantime, he also participated in Brazilian Christian metal band Iahweh.
