USCS professor comments on remote teaching during the 1st year of covid-19

Professor Thaís Schmidt, from the Biomedicine and Pharmacy courses at USCS (University of São Caetano do Sul) and Colégio USCS, published an article that addresses issues related to teaching during the first year of the covid-19 pandemic. Based on literature, articles and also the experiences of educators, the article addresses aspects of the educational context in the first year of the covid-19 outbreak in the country, evaluating the trajectory and performance of students, with a focus on emergency remote teaching (ERT) .

“This scientific article was published by invitation, as a result of a lecture I gave at the 1st SESI International Education Symposium, I believe it can be very useful for professional colleagues and also for those in training”, explains the author. “Although it has presented advances in the development of students’ skills and the possibility of crossing physical borders, the study highlights historical obstacles such as social inequality, lack of access and use of teaching resources”, adds the author.

Based on studies and experiences, the research reveals that there was a great disparity between the expected and actual results, as well as flaws in what was transmitted to students and what was actually learned. This was due to remote teaching solutions, which did not have satisfactory professional training for teachers on the use of digital platforms and methodologies to help students with the new learning approach.

With the publication of the article Remote Teaching Approaches for Brazilian Students at the covid-19 First Pandemic Outbreak, together with the author Lucinéia Ferreira Ceridório, in the magazine Foco Interdisciplinary Studies.
