The Draenar-DF project, responsible for drainage and rainwater collection works for the Government of the Federal District (GDF), reached the milestone of 5.6 km of excavated horizontal tunnels, of which 2.7 km have been concreted. Under construction in Asa Norte, it will be through the galleries that rainwater will pass in the future, doubling the region’s drainage capacity.

The new drainage network is being built by Companhia Imobiliária de Brasília (Terracap), with an investment of around R$180 million. “The work is important to correct flooding and flooding problems that cause the destruction of property, both public and private. Commerce is harmed, as no one will choose a place in these conditions to go for lunch, for example, and neither will the residents and workers in the region”, assesses Terracap’s technical director, Hamilton Lourenço.

The progress of the project was checked by employees of the Environmental Sanitation Company of the Federal District (Caesb) this Friday (26). The team participated in a presentation on the technical details of the work at Terracap headquarters and then visited the detention basin. Employees from a private urban planning company also participated.

The president of Caesb, Luís Antônio Reis, highlighted the essentiality of the intervention: “Drenar DF is one of the most important works for the preservation of Brasília, which is a listed heritage site. Today we have a sixty-year-old city that needs this type of perspective, with the maintenance and updating of systems. Draenar DF comes to solve problems that seriously harm the population and affect important spaces, such as public, residential and business buildings. This investment is essential for us to keep our home preserved and modernized.”

With 7.6 km long, the network begins at the BRB Mané Garrincha Arena and goes to Lake Paranoá, running parallel to blocks 902 (near the Military College), 702, 302, 102, 202 and 402, crossing the W3 Norte and Eixo Rodoviário Norte (Eixão), in addition to Via L2 Norte, reaching L4 Norte. At the end of the route, the detention basin is being built. The pipe excavation is done using the non-destructive tunnel liner method, which concentrates almost all services underground. Soil drilling is done manually, with shovels and picks, at a depth of up to 22 m.
