During the afternoon of this Friday, the Plenum of the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) decided that John Textor, owner of SAF do Botafogo, will need to serve 45 days of suspension and pay a fine of R$ 100 thousand because of his statements after the match against Palmeiras, in the 2023 Brazilian Championship.

Having already received a preventive suspension at the end of last year, John Textor has already been away for 28 days and will now only need to serve the remainder of his sentence (17 days). During this period, he will not be able to be present at Botafogo games, whether as home team or visitor.

Plenary members agreed that John Textor violated articles 243-F (offense of honor) and 258-B (field invasion).

Textor’s defense strongly disagreed with the punishment in article 258-B. They believe that, as he is the club’s main manager and has accreditation, the North American had the right to be on the side of the pitch at the end of the match.

Furthermore, the defense also said that it did not expect the case to be judged due to a request for an investigation into accusations of match-fixing in Brazilian football made by Textor, who is linked to the case in question.
