Therapeutic potential of Rita Lee’s songs will be the theme of an event in Natal

May 8th marks one year since the death of Rita Lee, the queen of rock. Wanting to honor her legacy, psychologist and artist, Joseh Garcia, organized the “Rita Lee Terapia” event, which features a lecture to discuss the therapeutic potential of the artist’s songs and a photographic exhibition by the artist João Maria Alves. The event is free and takes place this Wednesday (8), at 7 pm, at Livraria Nobel, in Praia Shopping, in Natal.

As part of the meeting’s schedule, the evening will begin with a lecture on the therapeutic potential of music by Rita Lee, based on Joseh’s doctoral thesis, which was defended at the California Institute of Integral Studies (USA). The artist, who spent 5 years dedicated to researching Sound Therapy, realized that the artist he listened to the most in his life was Rita Lee. Sound therapy takes advantage of the vibrations of songs for the benefit of human well-being. The event arose from the artist’s desire to honor Rita on the anniversary of her passing and the desire to share the therapeutic potential of her songs.

“I discovered Rita Lee’s music when I was 7 years old and it accompanied every stage of my life. After years working as a psychologist and performing as a singer, I went to study for a doctorate in Eastern-Western Psychology in San Francisco (USA). There I delved deeper into the therapeutic aspect of the arts, and Sound Therapy, and then naturally I decided to research the music that was the most influential in my life. There were 5 years of research within the field of philosophy and psychology of music and conducting interviews with selected listeners. The result was my doctoral thesis ‘Music as a vehicle for self-transformation’ focusing on the music of the queen of rock.”explained the psychologist in an interview for Know more.

After the conversation about the various types of personal transformations that can occur from listening in depth to the rocker’s repertoire, those present will be able to enjoy the exhibition of exclusive photos of João Maria Alves who is on Natal soil.

Research was the first academic work with a psychological look at the work of Rita Lee

Joseh says that his doctoral thesis “Music as a vehicle for self-transformation” was the first academic work focusing on the rock queen’s music. “I believe it was the first academic work on her work done in the English language.”, added the psychologist.

At the event, the author of the work will talk about Rita, her career, and also about the various transformative experiences that listeners can have when coming into contact with her music. Furthermore, the artist will give tips on how to facilitate deep experiences with music in everyday life. “To make everything more exciting, we will have a photo exhibition of João Maria Alves with his exclusive photos of the singer in Natal. If I were you, I wouldn’t lose.”concluded.
