O Botafogo asked the CBF that the referee Raphael Claus don’t whistle the classic against the Flamengonext Sunday, at 11 am, at Maracanã, for the 4th round of the Brazilian championship. The information was initially released by the newspaper The globe and confirmed by ESPN.
Through a letter sent to the entity, Alvinegro requests that Claus and video referee Daiane Muniz stay out of the club’s matches until investigations by the CPI for Manipulation of Games and Sports Betting are completed.
The document also points out that the announcement that Claus would be responsible for refereeing the classic was made during Textor’s testimony, last Monday (22). On the occasion, the owner of SAF alvinegra cited alleged mistakes made by Claus and Daiane in the 2023 Brasileirão classic, won by Flamengo 2-1.
For the businessman, Rubro-Negro’s two goals were irregular. The first due to a supposed offside and the second due to a foul at the origin of the play.
”During his testimony, Mr. Textor mentioned several mistakes made by referee Raphael Claus and video referee Daiane Muniz, which harmed not only SAF BOTAFOGO but also other clubs competing in Series A of the Brazilian Championship and which, unfortunately, put into question the honesty or, at least, the technical capacity of the aforementioned professionals to perform functions of such importance”, says an excerpt from the letter.
”In view of the public nature of the criticisms made and the evidence reported to the CPI based on the report of GoodGameit is respectfully understood that, from a strictly objective perspective, the referee in question does not enjoy the necessary independence and impartiality – nor the trust of the public and other actors involved, including CR Flamengo himself – to referee SAF BOTAFOGO matches, at least not until the CPI investigations are completed,” the club states in the document.
