Furthermore, the number of deaths caused by the disease in the region rose to 37. According to SES-MG, there were nine more deaths from the disease in the south of Minas during the reporting period. Varginha confirmed two more deaths, while Alfenas, Campos Gerais, Cássia, Itamogi, Itajubá, Pouso Alegre and São Lourenço each had one confirmation.

Amid the weekly increase in contamination and deaths, only three cities in the south of Minas still have no confirmed cases of the disease. Are they:

Cases on the rise in the South of Minas

The number of confirmed cases of the disease in the region already represents more than double what was recorded last year in the south of Minas. According to SES-MG, the region already has 93,734 cases of the disease. Throughout 2023, there were 41,586 confirmations in the region.

Varginha continues to lead the number of confirmed cases in the region, with 14,638 records. Três Corações appears next with 5,864 records and Passos has 5,565

This week, Três Corações is the city where the number of cases increased the most. There were +1,457 notifications in the week, against +1,444 from Varginha and +1,230 from Passos.
