Adventist South American headquarters appoints institution administrators

The Appointments Committee of the South American Adventist branch, formed by members of the Plenary Steering Committee, approved this Sunday, May 5, the directors of a new health institution and the associate financial director of the South American Adventist branch.

With the retirement of pastor Marlon Lopes, who served as financial director of the Seventh-day Adventist Church for Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay, pastor Edson Medeiros, then financial director of Casa Publicadora Brasileira (CPB ), was recommended to assume this position.

The administrators of Adventist Health, a recently created South American Adventist institution established through the restructuring of health plans and hospitals, clinics and healthy living centers, were voted.

Pastor Gilnei Abreu was chosen as general director, who until then served as financial director of the Adventist Church for the State of São Paulo. Born in the city of Rio Grande, in Rio Grande do Sul, he has a degree in Accounting and Religious Studies. Postgraduate in Business Management, he has an MBA in Finance, Controlling and Auditing from Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV) and an MBA in Leadership and Innovation from the same institution.

He began his work in 1997 at the Associação Sul-Rio-grandense, one of the administrative headquarters of the Church for part of Rio Grande do Sul, where he was an accounting assistant. Later, he was an accountant at the Instituto Adventista Cruzeiro do Sul (IACS). He served as assistant treasurer at the Associação Sul-Paranaense and in 2006 he was appointed financial director of Rede Novo Tempo de Comunicação. Two and a half years later, he was chosen as associate financial director of the South American Adventist branch. In 2017, he was named finance director of the Adventist Church for the Midwest States. In 2021 he took over the financial direction of the Church in the State of São Paulo. He is married to Melânia Abreu, with whom he has two children: Guilherme and Mathias.

Also for Adventist Health, Anderson Erthal was appointed as financial director. He has served as associate financial director at the South American Adventist branch since 2021. Born in Cambará, Paraná, he has a degree in Accounting and a postgraduate degree in Finance. He began his career of service to the Adventist Church in 1996 as an accountant at the Associação Sul-Rio-grandense, where he remained until 1999, the year in which he was transferred to the Instituto Adventista Cruzeiro do Sul (IACS) to occupy the same role.

In 2001, he returned to the Associação Sul-Rio-grandense. In early 2004 he was transferred to União Sul Brasileira, headquarters of the Adventist Church for Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul. There he assumed the role of Controllerwhere he later also worked as a financial assistant.

In 2009, he accepted the invitation to take on the financial direction of Rede Novo Tempo de Comunicação. In early 2015 he moved to Brasília to serve as assistant financial director for the South American Adventist branch. In the same year he was appointed financial director of the Associação Planalto Central, the denomination’s administrative office for Brasília and surrounding areas. In 2021, he returned to the South American headquarters as associate chief financial officer, where he has remained until now. Married to Luciana Erthal and has a daughter, Anna Erthal.

And to fill the role left by Anderson Erthal, accountant Martim Distler was appointed. Graduated in Accounting Sciences from Centro Universitário Unieuro, he has an MBA in Business Management from Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV).

He began his work for the Adventist Church in November 2000 at the Rio Grande do Sul Association as a bill collector and cashier in the Education department. In 2002 he began working as a cashier and accountant at the South American Adventist headquarters. In 2009 he joined the team at Associação Mato-Grossense, the denomination’s office for Mato Grosso, as an assistant for the Religious part and an assistant for Education. In 2011 he worked as an Education Assistant at Associação Planalto Central, the Church’s headquarters for Brasília and surrounding areas.

In 2016, he assumed the same role at the Brazilian Central-West Union, which serves several states in this region. In April 2017 he was appointed financial director of the Instituto Adventista Paranaense, now Faculdade Adventista do Paraná (FAP). In March 2021 he was chosen as financial director of the Associação Sul-rio-grandense, and in November 2023 he took over as financial manager of the Instituto Adventista de Jubilação e Assistência (IAJA). Married to Thiele Alves Distler, he has three children: Thaisy, Melyna and Matheus.
