Romero surpasses Yuri Alberto and isolates himself at the top of Corinthians’ artillery in 2024; see numbers

On Wednesday night, Corinthians beat Londrina, 3-0, in a friendly match played to give rhythm to the black and white squad. The triumph also served to change ownership of Timão’s artillery in 2024.

When the ball rolled at the Jacy Miguel Scaganatta Stadium, Corinthians had Yuri Alberto as their top scorer of the season, with six goals scored. However, the number 9 ended up being surpassed by Ángel Romero.

The Paraguayan started the match on the bench and was called on by António Oliveira in the second half, with almost 20 minutes. Even with little time on the field, Romero changed the face of the game and was responsible for two of Timão’s three goals. Going into the net twice, the number 11 became the black and white top scorer of the season with seven goals.

The mark was reached by Romero in a match in which it could even be an embezzlement. The Paraguayan returned earlier than expected in the FIFA Date, as Paraguay’s friendly against Russia was canceled due to an attack. The expectation was that, like Félix Torres, the striker would end up not training with the group before the friendly and not traveling.

The Paraguayan, however, performed and was highly praised by Fiel. Fans praised Romero on social media and also voted him Timão’s best player on the field.

Now, the black and white group is preparing for its official return to the pitch. On April 2nd, next Tuesday, the Parque São Jorge club will face Racing, at 8pm, at the Centenario Stadium, in Montevideo, Uruguay. The match marks the debut in the Copa Sudamericana.
