Lula: ‘We need a strong defense industry to build peace’

After his stay in Belo Horizonte, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) went to São José dos Campos, in the interior of São Paulo, this Friday (26/4), to visit Embraer, where he stated that the country needs of a strong defense industry, to avoid hypothetical wars.

“A country the size of Brazil cannot depend on technologies from inferior countries,” said the PT member.

The largest exporters of war material in the world are the United States, France, Russia, China and Germany, according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute.

“We have to create everything we can create so that, instead of us being dependent, people become dependent on us. (…) We are capable of being a great nation in the area of ​​defense to build peace, not to make war”, said the president.

Lula also pointed out that the government intends for Brazil to be among the five largest turbine manufacturers.
