Sesc Flamengo beats Barueri and takes the lead in the quarterfinals of the Superliga

Sesc Flamengo took an important step to guarantee itself in the semifinals of the 2023/2024 Women’s Volleyball Super League. In the debut of the playoffs, the team led by Bernardinho defeated Barueri away from home by 3 sets to 1 (25/15, 25/20, 20/25 and 25/17) in the quarter-finals of the competition. With the result, Mengão only needs one more victory at home to advance.

Despite the defeat in the third set, Sesc Flamengo showed more consistency throughout the match. On the other hand, Barueri’s team made many mistakes and saw the visitors dominate the first two stages. The home team even made a reaction with adjustments in the third half, but the Cariocas regained control and confirmed the victory.

The red-black opposite Sabrina Machado ended the match as the highest scorer, scoring 22 points. Also from Mengão, Roni Perry came soon after with 18 points scored. Additionally, setter Brie King scored 5 points and won the best on the court award. On Barueri’s side, Jheovana stood out with 13 points.

Decision at home

In the playoffs of the Women’s Volleyball Super League, Sesc Flamengo entered with the best campaign in the qualifying phase. The red-and-blacks only lost twice in 22 matches played. In fact, they defeated Barueri in the matches valid for the round and return. The Chiquititas took the last spot for the knockout stages, registering 8 wins and 14 defeats.

The next match between Sesc Flamengo and Barueri could define the red and black team’s classification for the semi-finals in case of another victory. The duel is scheduled for next Saturday (30), starting at 7pm, at the Tijuca Tênis Clube Gymnasium, in Rio de Janeiro. If Barueri wins, another clash will take place at the home of the Cariocas. This time, at Maracanãzinho.
