Madrid (Spain) – Luisa Stefani from São Paulo, number 10 in the world in doubles, and her partner Demi Schuurs debuted with a devastating victory at the WTA 1000 in Madrid. In this Saturday, she and the Dutch beat the Polish Magda Linette and the Chinese Shuai Zhang by 2 sets to 0with the final score of 6/1 and 6/2, in just 53 minutes of play.
“Very good first round, playing well from start to finish, mild weather, 10 degrees, with rain. Even when the rain stopped the game, on the way back we maintained our energy, playing well in the second set as well and we closed the game very solidly”, analyzed the São Paulo native, who saw her game being stopped in the first set due to bad weather.
Stefani said she was inspired by compatriot Thiago Monteiro’s earlier victory, which surprised the packed Greek Stefanos Tsitsipascoming from the Monte Carlo Masters 1000 title and the runner-up at the ATP 500 in Barcelona to continue in the competition and guarantee themselves in the third round of the men’s draw.
