The singer’s son questioned the death certificate

The will of Brazilian singer Gal Costa gained greater repercussion again this week. Two of the artist’s cousins — Verônica Silva and Priscila Silva — are asking the São Paulo Court to once again legally validate the will written by Gal in 1997, with the justification that the businesswoman who claims to be the singer’s widow, Wilma Petrillo, had coerced Gal to revoke the document in 2019. The information was given by G1 last Saturday (30).

According to the singer’s cousins, the 1997 will provided that the money earned by Gal should be used to create the Gal Costa Foundation for the Incentive of Music and Culture. The management of this foundation should be the responsibility of the five cousins, and it has Wilma’s signature as a witness.

The process states that “the Foundation’s objective would be to train musicians and other artists linked to the area, promoting festivals, competitions, granting music scholarships to needy people, among other purposes of an exclusively philanthropic nature, and it is also established that the aforementioned Foundation”, being a non-profit institution.

The cousins also claim that in 2000, Gal handed over her entire collection of costumes, including pieces used in Tropicália shows. The purpose was “for the aforementioned collection to constitute assets of the Gal Costa Foundation”. The information about the cancellation of the will would only have been informed after the singer’s death, November 9, 2022.

In the process, Verônica and Priscila say that they tried to understand the “motivation for the effective revocation of the will, without any prior or subsequent notice.” According to them, “they already had some suspicions that possible manipulation by Wilma Teodoro Petrillo had occurred (… ) for the revocation to be carried out”, highlighting Wilma’s “manipulation” of “conduct” towards Gal, “whether in relation to her career, her assets, her family, employees and friends and in addition to everyone who interacted with her related.”

According to the cousins, “during the personal and business relationship that Wilma Teodoro Petrillo maintained with Gal Costa, she was visibly unhappy and ill, according to dozens of testimonies” and that Gal would never have sought “recognition of the stable union” with the businesswoman.

The union between Gal and Wilma is also contested by the singer’s son, Gabriel Penna Burgos Costa. Gabriel’s disagreement in the relationship was used as an argument by the singer’s cousins, who claim that Wilma had coerced Gal into signing a letter certifying the stable union.
