The Islamic fundamentalist group Hamas said it found “dozens” of corpses in al-Shifa Hospital, the largest in the Gaza Strip, after the Israeli Army withdrew from the site.

Israeli soldiers had occupied the health structure since mid-March, but left the complex this Monday (1st).

“Dozens of bodies of martyrs, some in a state of decomposition, were found in and around the hospital complex,” said the Hamas-controlled Gaza Health Ministry.

According to the ministry, the damage to the buildings is “very significant”. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) stated that soldiers “killed terrorists” at al-Shifa Hospital and “located numerous weapons and intelligence documents, preventing harm to civilians, patients and medical staff.”

The complex is located in Gaza City, the largest in the enclave and devastated during the Israeli incursion that began after the October 7 attacks.

However, according to the director of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, at least 21 patients died during Israel’s siege of al-Shifa, which began on March 18.

“There is only one bottle of water left for every 15 people, and contagious diseases are spreading because of the extremely unhygienic conditions,” Adhanom added on X (formerly Twitter).
