Atlas/CNN research published this Thursday (25) shows that voters who declared having voted for governor Romeu Zema (Novo) and former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), in the 2022 elections, have a greater preference for the name of the state deputy Bruno Engler (PL) in the municipal elections for Mayor of Belo Horizonte. The survey asked participants about their votes in the election for governor of Minas Gerais and president of the Republic two years ago and their current preferences for the dispute in the capital of Minas Gerais.

See the numbers: Election in BH: Atlas/CNN survey shows Bruno Engler with 31% and Rogério Correia with 16.4%

Among those who declared their vote for Zema, in the first round of the last elections, 59.6% of voters said they would vote for Engler. Another 9.1% mentioned the name of senator Carlos Viana (Podemos). Former state deputy João Leite (PSDB) is mentioned by 5.4% of voters.

In the 2022 election for the Government of Minas, Romeu Zema won with 56.18% of the valid votes, still in the first round. Second place was the former mayor of Belo Horizonte, Alexandre Kalil (PSD), who obtained 35.08%, followed by Carlos Viana, until then affiliated with the PL, with 7.23%.

Among voters who voted for Kalil two years ago, the votes are divided. Kalil’s biggest heir is federal deputy Rogério Correia (PT), with 28.3% of the votes. Next comes federal deputy Duda Salabert (PDT), with 22.6%, followed by councilor Gabriel Azevedo (MDB), with 14.2%.

A curious situation occurs with the spoils of senator Carlos Viana’s vote in 2022. This is because 43.2% of voters who said they voted for him for governor of Minas Gerais said they preferred Bruno Engler (PL) in the elections for mayor of Belo Horizonte. Another 39.5% said they would keep voting for Viana himself.

Who voted for Lula and Bolsonaro, who votes for?

The survey also asked voters about their vote for president in 2022 and who they would vote for in October this year for mayor of Belo Horizonte.

The most consolidated transfer of votes is that of former president Jair Bolsonaro to Bruno Engler. Of the total number of voters who said they voted for the retired Army captain two years ago, 61.3% said they would vote for Engler. Another 15.4% said they preferred Carlos Viana.

Among Lula’s voters, the votes are more spread out. The main beneficiary of the PT’s electoral estate in the capital of Minas Gerais is Rogério Correia (35.1%). However, other candidates also appear well positioned among Lula’s voters, such as federal deputy Duda Salabert, with 21.3% and Gabriel Azevedo, with 11.9%.
