Last Friday (3), federal deputy Eduardo da Fonte (PP) met with the rector of the University of Pernambuco, Maria do Socorro, with the superintendent of Santa Casa de Misericórdia de Pernambuco, Father Claudionor Alves, and with the state deputy Pastor Cleiton Collins (PP) to discuss the transfer of the land where the Oswaldo Cruz University Hospital is located, a reference in the treatment of cancer patients, whose owner is Santa Casa, to the State of Pernambuco.
The hospital has been operating in Pernambuco for more than 139 years and, in 2025, the state celebrates 100 years of administration of the institution. The transfer of ownership will allow for its requalification and improvement of services.
According to deputy Eduardo da Fonte: “the transfer of the Santa Casa land to the State of Pernambuco, which has been in charge of the hospital for almost 100 years, will allow the remodeling and modernization of the hospital, with the expansion of important sectors, and the improvement of services for those who need it most”. And he emphasized: “After the purchase of the land is made official, we will work to seek investments from the Federal Government, together with the Ministry of Health, so that Oswaldo Cruz has all the necessary structure for university students and hospital patients”.
The deputy also committed to intensifying UPE’s efforts with governor Raquel Lyra (PSDB), who, according to the parliamentarian, has shown herself to be very sensitive to the issue.
The UPE rector spoke about the deputy’s efforts to ensure that the land becomes State property. “In recent months, the management of the University of Pernambuco has been in dialogue with Santa Casa de Misericórdia about the possibility of acquiring ownership of the land where the Oswaldo Cruz University Hospital is located. The management of UPE would like to thank the parliamentarian, deputy Eduardo da Fonte, for his constant collaboration with our plea with the State Government”.
