Indigenous teachers who work in the Bahia education network will have their salaries equivalent to those of the rest of the category. The change, proposed in a bill sent by the state government, was unanimously approved this Tuesday (23), in the Legislative Assembly (Alba).

With the change, some teachers will earn up to R$3,000, according to TV Bahia.

The minimum wage for teachers who worked 40 hours a week increased from R$1,253 to R$4,420. For professionals who work 20 hours a week, the adjustment was R$2,210.

The highest salary provided for in the bill is R$9,360 for those with more qualifications, such as postgraduate degrees, and years of service.

According to Alba, around 700 teachers will benefit from the measure. Bahia’s indigenous education network has 7,600 students enrolled in 71 school units.
