Senator from Mato Grosso once again called for actions to enable the use of grain transportation through navigable rivers in the State

The director of Planning and Project Structuring at BNDES, former minister Nelson Barbosa; and the Superintendent of Government Services at Caixa, Flavio Gavazza, assured Senator Jayme Campos (União-MT) that Mato Grosso will benefit from sustainable financing lines. In the Senate Infrastructure Committee, they debated this Tuesday, the 23rd, the investments foreseen by the Growth Acceleration Program (PAC).

Among the various points highlighted, Jayme Campos highlighted that Mato Grosso has a vast territorial extension and a significant potential in renewable energy, especially in the area of bioenergy. He asked that both BNDES and Caixa can encourage investments in clean and renewable energy projects as part of PAC initiatives.

The Mato Grosso senator expressed concern about aspects related to the energy transition and reduction of carbon emissions on the planet. In this sense, he asked BNDES and Caixa for information on the strategies being adopted to promote a favorable environment for business, but also the protection of the environment and social inclusion through these investments.

Jayme Campos also asked the debaters for a plan aimed at supporting and financing projects related to agribusiness itself, aiming to increase productivity, promote sustainability and boost development in the region. He highlighted the State’s production capacity, but emphasized that logistics continues to be the determining factor in making production and its costs more expensive. He once again demanded the consolidation of structural works on BRs 158 and 242.

In addition to defending the energy transition and sustainable investments for agribusiness, Jayme Campos also drew attention to Mato Grosso’s potential in another segment: navigation. He highlighted that the State has many strategies for transporting production using large rivers. He cited the Teles Pires, Tapajós, Juruena and Araguaia-Tocantins rivers as an example.

“These are fantastic potentials that to this day, unfortunately, are not exploited adequately, in a sustainable way. It is one of the best, non-polluting forms of transport. Without a doubt, one of the cheapest means of transport” – stressed the senator, remembering that today, Brazil transports 70% of production “by truck wheel”.

The PAC foresees investments in the order of R$1.7 trillion by 2027. The resources will have a major impact on the country’s growth, creating jobs and overcoming infrastructure bottlenecks that hinder development. Mato Grosso will receive R$60.6 billion for investments in works.

During the public hearing that debated the PAC, Nelson Barbosa confirmed that one of the BNDES’ priorities at this time, within the program, is the completion of the Central West Integration Railway, the FICO, which will connect Araguaia to the North-South railway, and the consolidation of the exit to the West, with the connection between Mato Grosso and Rondônia via BR-264. Barbosa guaranteed that agribusiness in Mato Grosso will also continue to be supported with financing lines for storage “so as not to leave the producer exposed to price variations”.
