Optimist’s North and Northeast Decision in Bahia

The North Northeast Optimist Championship will be decided this Sunday (5), at the Yacht Clube da Bahia (YCB), in Salvador (BA).

The competition brings together more than 150 young sailors in the introduction to the sport category.

The event is worth the last places for international OP tournaments such as World, European, North American, African and Asian.

The final disputes at Baía de Todos-os-Santos take place from the beginning of the afternoon and the winners between Veterans and Newcomers are practically defined according to the classification table.

Rio de Janeiro Yacht Club athlete Eduardo Backheuser has a comfortable lead in the lead, ahead of clubmates Henrique Lucena and Manuel Bragança.

Among the newcomers, Maria Eduarda Vieira Beltrão from Cabanga Iate Clube de Recife (PE) from Pernambuco maintains an exceptional average at the top. Behind are Arthur Elpídio de Almeida Alves and Rafaela Gagno, both from Yacht Clube da Bahia.

In the Brazilian Op Ranking, Eduardo Essinger Backheuser, Arthur Back and Joana Freitas, who also compete in the regattas at YCB, are the best placed.

”Throughout this week, we have witnessed young sailing talents giving their best in the waters of Baía de Todos-os-Santos. Each sailor demonstrated skill, determination and passion for the sport, making this event a true celebration of sailing”, said Marco Aurélio de Sá Ribeiro, president of CBVela.

”We have the additional privilege of serving as a selective team for the Brazil team. The athletes who will have the honor of representing our country in the season’s international competitions will leave here even better prepared.”

The North Northeast Optimist Championship is in partnership with CBC – Brazilian Club Committee and Optibra – Brazilian Association of Optimist class sailors.
