A 20-year-old young man was arrested red-handed by the Federal Police with R$1,000 in counterfeit notes. He was detained inside a post office in São José, in Greater Florianópolis, on Monday (22).

Police officers went to the location after receiving information that a postal object could have fake ballots. They then approached the suspect at the São José Central Post Office.

With the young man, the police found 10 fake R$100 bills. The suspect told the corporation that he had ordered the bills through an internet application.

As a result, the young man will be charged with counterfeit currency, a crime provided for in article 289 of the Penal Code. The expected penalty is three to 12 years in prison and a fine.

The ballots will undergo forensic examination and the PF will open an investigation to investigate their origin.

The Federal Police clarified that both the PF itself and the Post Office have intelligence tools to identify possible crimes committed through the post office.
