The largest cellulose factory in the world is about to come into operation in the city of Ribas do Rio Pardo, marking a significant advance in the cellulose sector globally. This mega-project, part of Suzano’s Cerrado Project, not only represents an impressive feat in the industry, but also a substantial boost to the regional and national economy.

With a massive investment of R$22.2 billion, the Cerrado Project is a benchmark in the manufacture of products derived from eucalyptus, with emphasis on cellulose production. The factory is designed to increase the company’s production capacity by around 20%, increasing its installed capacity to 13.5 million tons of cellulose per year, in addition to 1.5 million tons of paper and other products.

According to information from Suzano itself, the Cerrado Project is in the final phase of electromechanical assembly and commissioning, after three years of construction. This project stands out for its operational efficiency and sustainable practices, as highlighted by Miranda, director of Engineering at Suzano and responsible for the project.

“The energy generation planned for the new factory will not only guarantee its energy self-sufficiency, but will also contribute to the Brazilian electrical system, providing clean and renewable energy. It is a competitive project that aims to combine energy savings and best production practices”, highlights Miranda .

In addition to the impact on cellulose production, the Cerrado Project generated more than 10 thousand jobs during construction and is expected to create another 3 thousand jobs in forestry and industrial operations. These opportunities not only boost the regional economy, but also represent a source of stability for thousands of workers.

The initiative also stands out for its contribution to environmental sustainability, using biomass as a renewable energy source. This approach not only reduces the environmental impact of operations, but also promotes the conservation of natural resources.

Furthermore, the Cerrado Project boosts Brazil’s technological development, incorporating technological advances throughout the production chain. With investments in research and development, the project has the potential to generate lasting benefits in several areas.

Thus, Suzano’s Cerrado Project is not just an industrial venture, but a transformative initiative for Brazil. Its impact ranges from creating jobs and strengthening the economy to promoting sustainability and technological development. As a world leader in cellulose production, Suzano is paving the way for a more prosperous and sustainable future in the country.
