A criminal police officer was arrested on suspicion of attacking and threatening his partner with a pistol in Tijucas, Greater Florianópolis, on Tuesday (2). The prison officer’s weapon was seized. The Civil Police reported that he was taken to a prison in the region. The identity of the suspect has not been released.

The Secretariat of Prison and Socio-Educational Administration said that, as soon as it is formally communicated, will investigate the facts and adopt all legal and administrative measures that are appropriate (see note below).

According to the Military Police, there was a call for help around 6pm. To the agents, the victim stated that the suspect attacked her with the weapon, causing head injuries. Furthermore, he allegedly threatened to burn down the house.

Initially, the suspect was not found at the scene. However, some time later, he went to the house where the attacks allegedly took place with his own truck. Military police searched the vehicle and found a loaded gun with two magazines.

According to the PM, the prison officer had the right to use the weapon. A portion of cocaine was also found in the car.

The man was detained and taken to the Legal Medical Institute (IML) for a medical examination and then to the region’s police station. The delegate on duty charged the suspect with bodily harm, threats and possession of drugs.

The case was referred to the judiciary.

Regarding the case of the criminal police officer involved in the occurrence of domestic violence, the Secretariat of Prison and Socio-Educational Administration informs that as soon as it is formally communicated, it will investigate the facts and adopt all applicable legal and administrative measures.

At the same time, it vehemently expresses its rejection of any type of domestic violence, especially when committed by security agents, whose mission is to guarantee the physical integrity and lives of all citizens.
