Last Friday (26), the Official Gazette of Bahia published the law no. 14,670of April 25, 2024, which establishes September 21 as the date to be celebrated, annually, as the Tax Auditor’s Day in the state. The choice came because the date was the day of Saint Matthew, who worked as a tax collector, before becoming an apostle. With this, the standard recognizes the merit of these professionals and the importance of their activities for the structuring and development of society.
According to the state deputy, Fabiola Mansurauthor of the bill, the establishment of a specific day serves to raise awareness about the essentiality of auditors’ activities and the importance of collecting taxes.
Furthermore, the Institute of Tax Auditors of Bahia (IAF Sindical) emphasizes that professionals in this category are essential to the functioning of the State, allowing the necessary state resources to be made available to meet social needs.
“Without the work of the tax auditor, the relationship between the State and civil society becomes asymmetrical and the losses are felt by everyone. It is necessary to recognize the value of this professional. The improvement of society and also of the State depends on the good performance of the functions of collecting and monitoring taxes, because it is from them that the improvements and social developments provided by the Public Power come from”, he declared.
