The driver who ran over a 55-year-old cyclist on MT-344, in Dom Aquino, 172 km from Cuiabá, handed himself in to the Civil Police this Tuesday (2), but was released. The body of the victim, identified as Jurani Rodrigues de Miranda, was found on the side of the highway, with several injuries to the body.

According to Civil Police Chief Anna Marien, the suspect was not arrested, but an investigation was launched and he will be charged with manslaughter, as he did not provide assistance.

“He was not arrested because there was no arrest, so there is no preventive or temporary arrest for him. But the investigations continue and we await the return of the report on the location and body”, he explains.

On Sunday (31), Jurani Rodrigues de Miranda, aged 55, died after being run over by a car on MT-344. According to the Civil Police, teams were informed of a body found lying on the side of the highway, close to the Barroso stream region, at around 4pm.

According to the nurse from the Jaciara Fire Department, Edinaldo Fernando de Souza, when the teams arrived at the scene, the victim was already dead.

“His bicycle was badly damaged and he had several injuries on his body. That is a region where there are a lot of cyclists and there is no shoulder and the person who collided with the cyclist did not provide assistance,” he says.
