The court granted provisional release to Elisângela Almeida Oliveira, accused of killing a woman and two children in Maragogipe, in the Recôncavo region of Bahia, in August 2018. She told the Civil Police that she poisoned the victims after a disagreement.
The victimsAdriane Ribeiro Santos, aged 23, and her daughters Greisse Santos da Conceição, aged 5, and Rute Santos da Conceição, aged 2, were poisoned with an agricultural insecticide. The three died within 15 days.
The only survivor of the house was Adriane’s husband and father of the children, identified as Jeferson Brandão. He denied involvement in the deaths.
According to the decision of the Court of Justice of Bahia (TJ-BA), the defendant meets the requirements for house arrest. The Director of the Penal Complex reported that Elisângela Almeida Oliveira suffers from bladder problems, uses a catheter and has been hospitalized several times.
According to the TJ-BA’s decision, the defendant’s defense requested house arrest to enable treatment with a urologist, physiotherapist and psychologist.
The decision also provides that Elisângela Almeida will be kept under house arrest with the use of an electronic ankle bracelet. The woman is also prohibited from leaving the house other than for medical and hospital care. To do this, she will have to request authorization from the Court five days in advance.
