After almost a month of much disruption, this Tuesday (2), the crater in the Belvedere neighborhood was closed, and Avenida Presidente Eurico Dutra was completely reopened. At the site, the driver needs to pay attention to construction remains, such as cones, containers and trucks, but nothing that prevents vehicles from traveling in both directions.

The crater opened on March 7, after the storm drainage network gave way.

On the 15th, the works were embargoed by the Regional Superintendence of Labor and Employment in Minas Gerais (SRTE), an agency of the Ministry of Labor in the State, due to irregularities and serious risk to workers. Only on March 27th, SRTE inspectors ordered the works, which were resumed.

Chaotic traffic

On March 8, the day after the crater appeared, traffic became very difficult in the region, with consequences in several parts of the city. Around 8am that day, drivers faced more thanand six kilometers of congestion at the BH Shopping interchange, on BR-356, on Raja Gabaglia Avenue and Nossa Senhora do Carmo Avenue.

A resident of Vila da Serra, in Nova Lima, in the metropolitan region, said that her son missed his first class due to retention. “I left home at 6:25 am as usual to take my son to school in Sion. Halfway along the way, we were surprised by the blocked traffic on the way down Celso Porfírio Machado Avenue. I had to turn around and go down BR 356 — Ponteio — completely congested. Result: my son missed his first class at school and I only managed to get to work almost an hour later,” she reported.
