State deputy Eduardo Salles, president of the Infrastructure, Economic Development and Tourism Commission of the Legislative Assembly of Bahia, once again complained about the poor maintenance of BR-324 (Salvador-Feira de Santana) and BR-116 (Feira de Santana on the border of MG), stretches managed by ViaBahia, and used its social networks to inform that it will propose to parliamentarians of the House a hearing at the Canadian Embassy in Brazil and, if necessary, with the company’s Canadian directors to “internationalize” the problems caused by concessionaire.

“Once again the population of Bahia is penalized by the irresponsibility of a company that has not fulfilled its obligations under the contract for more than a decade. I will propose to my colleagues on the Infrastructure, Economic Development and Tourism, Agriculture and Consumer Protection committees, who are together in this fight, and to all other parliamentarians in the House, that we request a hearing at the Canadian Embassy in Brazil to discuss of the current situation of this company, managed by a Canadian fund”, explained Eduardo Salles.

ViaBahia currently belongs to PSP Investments, one of the largest investment managers in Canada. The fund is the sole shareholder of ROADIS Transportation, which holds 94.7% of the share capital of the concessionaire that manages the Bahian sections of BR-324 and BR-116.

“We need the shareholders of this fund to know the truth about what is happening because we believe that the president of ViaBahia omits the true data. We want to alert investors in this fund that many accidents have occurred and they could be avoided if the contract was fulfilled by the concessionaire. The company does not demonstrate any commitment to the people of Bahia”, adds the state deputy.

Eduardo Salles highlights that the Infrastructure, Economic Development and Tourism Commission approved the preparation of a letter that was sent to the Bahian federal bench requesting support for the creation of the ViaBahia CPI in the Chamber proposed by federal deputy Leur Lomanto.

“We will not accept the situation continuing as it is. I can guarantee that we will do everything within the law so that Bahians have the right to travel along BR-324 and BR-116, which have had toll plazas since 2010, without running the serious risk of accidents like the one we are currently seeing. The Easter holiday, which saw a huge increase in the flow of vehicles along these highways, was, once again, a torment for everyone who needed ViaBahia’s services”, promised Eduardo Salles.
