1st BPMA releases results of Operation Holy Week

Campo Grande (MS) – From March 28 to 31, the 1st BPMA (Environmental Military Police Battalion) carried out Operation Holy Week with the aim of curbing environmental crimes and infractions, especially related to predatory fishing. The results of the operation were impressive, highlighting the efficiency of inspection actions and combating environmental crime.

During the operation, 11 infraction notices were created, totaling R$ 17,422.00 in fines applied. Furthermore, the police seized a significant amount of gear and products from predatory fishing, including 36 kg of fish, 8 reels, 26 branch hooks and 1 cast net. Two vessels equipped with outboard motors, illegally used for irregular fishing activities, were also seized.

In addition to focusing on predatory fishing, PMA committed its staff to combating and monitoring various environmental crimes, including illegal deforestation, wildlife trafficking and animal abuse. It is noteworthy that, during Operation Semana Santa, the warning was reinforced that fishing for Dourado remains prohibited, aiming to protect this emblematic species and fundamental for the balance of regional aquatic ecosystems.

In total, 06 arrests were made in the act for involvement in illegal activities related to the environment, 03 arrests following a detailed report and 01 arrest of a teenage offender.

The 1st Environmental Military Police Battalion reiterates its commitment to preserving and protecting the environment, ensuring law enforcement and combating criminal practices that threaten biodiversity and the sustainability of natural resources. Operation Semana Santa is yet another example of the authorities’ commitment to ensuring a healthy and safe environment for present and future generations.
