Gabigol was punished on February 25th. He was sentenced by the TJD-AD (Anti-Doping Sports Justice Court) to two years of suspension. Now, the defense appeals to the CAS (Sports Court of Arbitration).

The attacker was accused of attempted fraud in an anti-doping test at the Flamengo Training Center, the day before a game against Fluminense in the Carioca Championship. He allegedly made it difficult to carry out the exam, disrespecting the officers responsible for collecting urine and not following appropriate procedures.

According to the accusation, Gabigol tried to hide his genitals when urinating in the bowl, which constitutes fraud. Despite this, the test came back negative.

The Brazilian Doping Control Authority (ABCD) carries out “surprise doping” at Brazilian clubs’ training centers regularly during the season. Athletes are prohibited from refusing to take a sample after notification, according to the institution’s rules.

Gabigol has a contract with Rubro-Negro until the end of this year. The player and the board have already talked about renewal, but there has not yet been a common denominator between the parties.
