Man drowns in Piúma

A 62-year-old man drowned at Praia do Centro, in Piúma, in the south of Espírito Santo, on Saturday morning (30). The victim was with a woman when she tried to cross the sandbanks to Ilha do Gambá on foot. According to witnesses, a wave separated the two, the woman managed to return to the sandbank, but the man disappeared into the sea.

The name was not released by the Fire Department, but it was reported that he was from Manhuaçu, in the Zona da Mata of Minas Gerais, and was on an excursion with 47 other tourists to the coast of Espírito Santo, where the group would spend the Holy Week holiday.

The Fire Department confirmed that it was called to the incident late Saturday morning. Upon arriving at the location, the team found lifeguards carrying out searches at sea, until they received information that fishermen had removed a person, apparently dead, from the sea.

The military went to the location where the victim was and, together with the lifeguards, began resuscitation maneuvers until the arrival of the ambulance from the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu).

A man introduced himself to the military confirming that this was indeed the person who had drowned in the sandbanks and that the two were on the same excursion.

When Samu arrived, the victim was placed in the ambulance, where maneuvers continued, but without success. The death was confirmed by the mobile unit’s first responder.

The Civil Police reported that a forensic team was also at the scene. The victim’s body was taken to the Legal Medical Service (SML) of Cachoeiro de Itapemirim, where it was autopsied and subsequently released to family members.
