The state education network of Santa Catarina is one of the highlights of the book about the 5th Food and Nutrition Education Day (EAN), from the National Education Development Fund (FNDE). Of the 20 reports selected to compose the work, two are from Santa Catarina. The publication is scheduled to be launched in May this year.

One of those selected from Santa Catarina was EEB Felipe Manke, from Massaranduba. The school presented the report ‘Native Bees: Pollinating for a Sustainable Future through Agroecology’. The activity was carried out in partnership with nutritionist Aline Pereira da Silva.

“Participation in the 5th edition of the EAN Journey encouraged students to learn about the importance of native bees, enabling them to learn in several valuable learning spaces for exchanging ideas inside and outside the classroom”, stated Aline.

The EIEF Wherá Tupã Poty Djá, from Biguaçu, was selected for the ‘Valuation of Guarani Indigenous Food Culture Through EAN Actions at the Wherá Tupã Poty Djá School’. The report was presented and written by nutritionist Rayza Dal Molin Cortese, who developed the activities at the school in partnership with nutritionist Josiane Hilbig.

According to Rayza, “in addition to encouraging debates and reflections on healthy eating, the activities enabled the involvement of families in activities and actions, allowing younger people to observe and learn from older members the culinary techniques for preparing preparations typical of indigenous culture. ”.

Food and Nutrition Education is recognized by the State Department of Education as an important guideline of the National School Meal Program (PNAE), valuing students’ autonomy and self-care so that their food choices are increasingly healthier and sustainable.

The 5th EAN Day was held in 2023 by the FNDE, aiming to promote and foster Food and Nutrition Education actions within state and municipal schools. According to the FNDE, of the 1,508 participating schools across the country, 349 completed the EAN Journey and will receive a seal and an Honorable Mention certificate.

The activities were divided into four themes: ‘Learning about healthy eating in practice: let’s cook?’, ‘Agroecology is the path to the health of humanity and the planet’, ‘Using social media as facilitators to integrate the school community in activities of EAN’ and ‘Valuation and recovery of regional food culture, through the promotion of EAN’.
