Ibama plans preventive actions against forest fires in Amazonas

Manaus/AM – The National Center for Preventing and Combating Forest Fires (Prevfogo) of the Brazilian Institute for the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama) is planning preventive actions to act in areas affected by forest fires in Amazonas and in 19 other states.

The actions are part of the environmental emergency calendar established by Ordinance GM/MMA No. 1,052, published on Monday (29) in the Official Gazette of the Union.

The state of environmental emergency was declared at different times over the past year and according to the vulnerability of each region, through the adoption of technical criteria. This will make it possible for Ibama to hire temporary employees to work on preventing and combating potential forest fires.

The affected mesoregions are diverse and cover states such as Amazonas, Roraima, Rondônia, Acre, Pará, Amapá, Tocantins, Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso do Sul, São Paulo, Bahia, Distrito Federal, Goiás, Piauí , Rio de Janeiro, Ceará, Maranhão, Mato Grosso, Pernambuco.
